Moxi Rooftop Wedding: Chris & Julianna

Filed in: Weddings

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel & Moxi Rooftop Wedding

Long before Chris and Julianna met, Chris kept catching glimpses of an exuberant blonde every few months at different concerts and parties he would go to in DC. It wasn’t until over a year later that the two finally met through mutual friends and quickly bonded over some trash talk about Kobe and the Lakers vs Nash and the Suns. Over the next year, their chemistry grew and Julianna patiently waited for Chris to take the next step while coming to understand “Nolin time.” “Nolin time” is the designated term created by friends solely to describe how slow Chris can move. How funny is that!! They dated for three years before Julianna made her way back to the Golden State and Chris eventually followed.

This past January, Chris set up a nice picnic for the two of them in a hilltop meadow. When the golden-hour sun began to flood through the redwoods, Julianna thought ‘Well if he’s ever going to propose, there couldn’t be a more perfect time than right now…’  Never one to seize the moment, Chris opted to wait another hour before getting down on one knee. By that time, Julianna was tired, stuffed, and starting to get cold — but that also meant she was caught completely off guard. Nailed it. This couple is hilarious, beautiful, and absolutely wonderful and we loved getting to be a part of the wedding process with them!

Julianna and the girls got ready at her parent’s house in Montecito, overlooking all of Santa Barbara. The ladies from Mishay Salon did their hair and makeup and it looked incredible. Julianna grew up in Santa Barbara and developed life long friendships with the amazing women who became her bridesmaids. She gave her bridesmaids one of the best bridesmaid gifts we have ever seen – custom wine totes from Apolis, with their hometown printed on the front. Such a special and custom gift! After the girls finished getting ready, the girls headed over to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel where everyone was getting ready for the ceremony to begin!

When Julianna and her dad walked down the aisle there were so many happy tears. Chris had the biggest smile on his face and it was so sweet to see how truly happy he was! It was an absolutely beautiful ceremony! We love Our Lady of Mt. Carmel because not only is it all around gorgeous, it also has one of the prettiest altars we have ever seen!

After the ceremony, we took photos around the church property and then we jumped on a Santa Barbara Trolley with the bridal party and headed to Butterfly beach. The photos at the beach turned out AMAZING!! Once we were finished there, we headed to the Santa Barbara Courthouse. It was such a fun way to explore the prettiest places in Santa Barbara and all the while the bridal party drank champagne and cheers-ed with the newlyweds the whole time.

The guests arrived for cocktail hour at the Moxi on the bottom floor in the courtyard. They were treated with the bride and groom’s signature drinks which were a Rye Manhattan for Chris and a Lavender Vodka Spritz for Julianna. So cute! While the guests enjoyed drinks, we took Chris and Julianna away to grab some sunset photos on the pier, and then returned to a gorgeous reception on the rooftop. We took the elevator up to the roof, and when the door opened, our jaw dropped! This is truly one of the best views in all of Santa Barbara! We felt like we were in Santorini at sunset, and it was breathtaking!

As guests found their seats, the sun began to set and the sky got prettier by the minute. During the speeches, everything was bright pink from the sunset, and it truly felt like a dream! One of the speeches told story after story of Chris’ terrible luck. It was hysterical! Anything from his phone falling down elevator shafts to getting stung by a bee before he knew he was terribly allergic to bee stings were stories that were shared. They finished the speech by saying that Chris’ luck has forever changed for the better now that he has Julianna. So sweet!! Another speech hit on the concept of “Nolin time” again by sharing that their group of friends once took it upon themselves to try and instigate a first kiss moment since it was taking so long. They made Chris and Julianna get on a ferris wheel together where it looked like they were just about to kiss, but the friends ended up interrupting their moment when Chris and Julianna looked down to see all of them staring up at them!

It was so evident that everyone loves and cares for this couple so much. The night was truly one for the books, and we wrapped it up by all enjoying a delicious meal by Omni Catering, and then dancing the night away with DJ Darla Bea!
