Payton and Ashley met during their junior year of high school and started dating soon after. Not only are they high school sweethearts, but they are each other’s first and only boyfriend and girlfriend! How sweet is that?! After being together for 8 years, lots of things have changed, including Payton’s height. Ashley is constantly asked how she is with someone as tall as Payton (who is 6’7”) to which she explains he was not this tall when they started dating, but now she’s stuck with it. But we think their heigh difference is SO cute, and it makes them even more fun to photograph! In all seriousness though, it is clear that their respect and appreciation for each other has only deepened over time. Payton loves Ashley’s nurturing and caring personality, her desire to help others, and her sense of responsibility. Ashley adores how he takes care of her and others around him, his confidence, and his sense of responsibility. They always are able to make each other laugh and it is clear that they each are marrying their best friend!
Over the years as Payton slowly began to plan how he was going to propose, he started collecting hints on what kind of ring Ashley would like based on things she had mentioned to him. As he settled in on the perfect day and time, he was extra thoughtful to plan the proposal when Ashley’s sister from out of state would be in town so that the whole family could celebrate together.
The proposal took place at the Butterfly Beach and man oh man was it STUNNING. Payton led Ashley to a spot under the large Monterey Cyprus (see pictures below), and after asking her three times if she was ready, she finally uttered the word “yes.” Talk about suspense! With that, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. And he proposed with the ring in a Mrs. Box with her initial on the top! For those of you who don’t know yet, the Mrs. Box is that beautiful little velvet box we take 99% of our ring shots in! Your favorite ring shot of ours was probably taken in a Mrs. Box. Payton and Ashley brought their Mrs. Box to the engagement session for us to take photos of the ring in it, and we absolutely love those magical velvet boxes for ring shots, but most of all we love his thoughtfulness, and how he got it engraved for her before the proposal.
It was SO special to get to be a part of Payton & Ashley’s engagement. Payton put thought into every moment of the day and it clearly paid off! We are THRILLED to be a part of this exciting process and could not be more pumped about this couple! We had such a wonderful time with them during their engagement session, and we are so excited to share a few of our favorites with you!
